Palmetto Carriage Works is the oldest carriage tour company in Charleston, and has developed the greatest carriage experience in the city! A Palmetto Carriage tour offers a blend of knowledge, wit, humor and history, and is exciting and ever changing, a seamless fusion of 19th century conveyance in a 21st century city.

During the one-hour tour, you will:

• Experience 25-30 blocks of Charleston's historic downtown district
• See houses, gardens, mansions, churches, and parks
• Learn about buildings, history, architecture, flora and the people that make up the "Holy City"
• Learn everything that Charleston has to offer the visitor on a Palmetto Carriage tour

From the ground crew that assists in loading the carriage to the guides that lead the tour, our personnel is the most experienced in the industry. Carriages load and unload in the Big Red Barn, ensuring you have a shady place to wait in the summertime and can also interact with our animals, purchase drinks or snacks, or use the restroom before the tour.

We are equipped to handle any handicap needs you may have. Getting into a carriage can be hard, but we’ve solved that problem for you by providing a loading platform that is level with your carriage. Although we cannot put your wheelchair on the carriage, we can offer expert assistance in helping you to your seat. We have ample room in the barn to store wheelchairs, crutches, scooters, and strollers during your tour.

Tours of the residential district are available from 9 am to 5 pm during daylight savings time, and, weather permitting, from 9 am to 4 pm during the rest of the year.

During the summer, many tourists prefer the cool of the evening for their carriage tour. Our evening tours cover parts of the old walled city, historic churches and public buildings as well as the Cooper River Water Front. Evening tour operations are limited and we suggest you call ahead for tour schedules.
